Inhibition of these kinases might offer a means of selectively poisoning tumor cells. A growing number of reports indicate that tyrosine kinases are also important in the maintenance of transformed cells and that several tyrosine kinases are over-expressed in a range of human cancers. An understanding of the biological function of these kinases provides a target for therapeutic intervention.
